-----CRUISE RESTART IN U.S. ------
Many believed that the resumption of cruising in the U.S. would start in Florida as it is home to some of the busiest cruise ports in the world. So, when this latest cruise update was announced this past week that all the major cruise lines would begin sailing Alaska cruises in 2021, we were stunned.

It started with Carnival Corporation cruise lines announcing their restart of cruising with Holland America Line on July 24th. Then, Princess Cruises would begin sailing on July 25th, and Carnival Cruise Line would begin on July 27th. As huge fans of Alaska cruises, we were very excited about this latest U.S. restart cruise news.

Then, we learned on Friday that Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean International would also restart U.S. cruises in Alaska. In fact, one of Royal Caribbean's most innovative ships, Ovation of the Seas, would be among the cruise ships returning to service in Alaska in 2021.

We were so excited by this news that we may have booked another cruise this summer!

-----HOW CRUISING WILL RESUME IN 2021 -----
We have received many questions about how cruising will resume in Alaska in 2021. Well, it starts first with the U.S. Congress passing the Alaska Tourism Recovery Act. This legislation allows cruise ships to by-pass provisions of the Passenger Vessel Services Act. Now, the major cruise lines will not need to stop at a foreign port when visiting Alaska. Given the Canadian ban on cruise ships, this new legislation now gives cruise lines the authority to pass on stopping at those ports.

Next, all of the cruises that have been announced will include fully vaccinated passengers. As we have been tracking the past two weeks, the CDC has slowly been pulling back cruise restrictions for vaccinated cruisers. These changes include allowing vaccinated travelers to remove masks on the outdoor decks, as well as the ability to take private shore excursions. Then, the CDC opted to change testing requirements. Now, vaccinated travelers do not need to be tested at either embarkation or disembarkation.

With these new CDC guidelines making it easier for cruise lines to resume service, it is no wonder that all of the latest cruise updates regarding the return of cruising in the U.S. include the requirement that travelers be vaccinated.

Now, it is unclear when the cruise lines will announce that cruising will resume in ports like Florida or Texas. It is also unclear if these cruises will require everyone eligible to be vaccinated as well. Of course, we will keep you updated with the major cruise news updates as they are revealed. We are very hopeful that cruising will return to other U.S. homeports soon.
