The Bahamas is known for beautiful beaches, fantastic scuba diving and pirates. Today we are at the Nassau Bahamas Cruise Port and will tell you everything you need to know about the port. We are going to review the port atmosphere, what is near by, and how you can prepare for your day.

It is nice that the cruise port (Nassau Bahamas) has a dock so there is no tendering needed. The dock is not too long and there is some shade. It will take you about 5 minutes to walk off the dock. There are signs about masks and having your proof of vaccine. No one asked us for ours but it is good practice to have a picture or a copy of it.

We were the fourth Celebrity cruise ship to arrive at the Nassau Bahamas Port. The effects of the last 18 months without cruising were very evident. A lot of the shops and restaurants that are on the main street right in front of the cruise ships are still closed. It is not a manufactured cruise port like you see in Costa Maya and other cities. After you walk off the dock at the Nassau Bahamas cruise port you are in the city area. The area is very much set up for tourism with lots of shops and restaurants. The market is just a block or so up from the port and there are some great local shops with all your regular tourist items. There are mugs, shirts, hats, bags, and more. There are a couple little shops open with food and drink. If you continue through the market there are more shops and restaurants. If you haven't got to a bank yet there are a couple just minutes from the port as well. At the Nassau cruise port there were also some locals offering glass bottom boat tours and taxis offering sightseeing trips around the island. We know a lot of people don't like to book with the cruise line so there are a few but the options are limited at the moment.

Right now at the Nassau Bahamas cruise port there is a lot of construction. They have plans for a new terminal that is estimated to cost $300 million dollars. Part of the development is to increase the number and size of the cruise ships the port can handle. When the development is done the port can have 3 ships the size of Royal caribbean's Oasis class which has up to 6,000 passengers and three more ships that are 3,500 to 4,000 passengers. When the new Nassau Cruise Port is done there will be a coral reef exhibit, a museum, an amphitheatre, and Bahamian art and entertainment. The goal is to have an authentic Bahamian experience and sell items made on the island like jewelry and bags.

In terms of food and dining at the Nassau cruise port there is not a lot open right now. In the market there are a couple shops open with different food and drink options. Many of the popular restaurants are not open yet like Senor Frogs and other bars. It did look like some were getting ready to open. Hopefully the cruises can continue and more restaurants can open soon.

Many people ask, What is there to do in Nassau Bahamas? If you are vaccinated most cruise lines allow you to explore the port on your own. Be sure to check the rules for each port with your cruise line. Not far away there are beaches, an educultural museum, Fort Fincastle and more.
