Our boat gauge upgrade to Veratron Viewline Flex will be easy since they are programable and support nmea 2000. In this unboxing and review, we are switching out our old Volvo Penta gauges on the helm on our boat that were the VDO 1933 gauges which I think they were built in 1933... JK, and updating them with Veritron Viewline Flex 52mm gauges. But wait! You can program them with an app on your phone! They are a TFT gauge which means it shows up well in the sunlight. This screen has a square screen we'd rather have the full round screen but there are not a lot of that gauges that are compatible with the NEMA two thousand network. So in the box you have the gauge and the spin lock which is great you hav e a hole and pop it through your helm and spin it to lock it into the helm which is easy and you don't have to deal with any nuts and bolts. Haha probably they same guy who thought of Hot Pockets ? Then you have a connector that connects on the back of the gauge. You will need your phone or computer because all the directions are online. Then you generally need a power source and we had our Smart Charger on hand to coneenct to our Victron Connect system that we have on our phone. BUT WAIT! these gauges have NFC (near field communication) chip in them. You can open up an app on your phone with no power and it will ready all of the information and you can configure the gauge by tapping the phone and knows the address and everything. You have several configurations to chose from:
Fuel level
water level
waste level
Trim level
Rudder angle
Coolant temp
Boost temp
Engine oil temp
Engine oil pressure
Transmission oil temp
RPM
Boat Speed
Ammeter
voltmeter
Battery SOC (state of charge)
Battery SOH State of health)
Battery Temp
Battery Autonomy
Engine hours
Speed over ground
Course over ground
Speed
Clock
The best part is you don't have to have NEMA two thousand you can have resistive as well!
You can also set up the dual gauges because it does represent the percentage but it does show the volume level in the background.
You can also set up an alarm so if your fuel tank, black water tank or water tank starts getting low you can set an alarm for it to go off and can configure that as well.
You can also set and configure for brightness for daylight savings as well. It is available for Iphone and Android so most of us will be covered except for my friend John who still has a flip phone ?
