Does the ULTRA Anchor Ring Stop your boat from swinging while anchored? We get some hands on time with the Ultra Marine Anchor ring. The Ring not only can be used to shorten your anchor chain rode and reduce swinging while anchored but, can also be used as an emergency anchor retrieval tool, but does it work?
Our 48' Navigator Pilothouse has a relatively flat bottom. This is measured in degrees of deadrise. We have anywhere between 12 and 16 degrees of deadrise. An ocean going trawler or sports fisher would have a much steeper deadrise of twenty degrees or more. Simply put, the more greater the deadrise, the less a boat will swing back and forth at anchor due to the drag the keel creates in the water.
We headed out to Andrews Bay on Lake Washington for the weekend and dropped our Ultra Marine Anchor in about 34 feet of water. Next, we ran the Ultra Marine Ring down our chain rode about 40 feet. It wasn't easy at all to get it on the chain, since our Navigator doesn't have a bow pulpit. However, once deployed, we saw a significant reduction in swing.
Now pulling the Ring up and off of the anchor chain was a complete pain. If anyone has any suggestions, of a better way to put it on and off, we are open to suggestions!
