Welcome back! In this episode we are going to talk about changing out our davit which is that manual luffing crane to a hydraulic luffing crane and that is exciting to us because it is really hard to get this thing up out of the water and up on the deck without falling off and killing myself. So with the Steelhead WD800 hydraulic luffing it is going to be easy peasy lemon squeezy ? ? So what is a manual luffing crane? You can see the holes and the plunger and what you do is pick one of the holes to put the plunger in. What the problem is, is that When you pick the hole to get the dinghy out it is too far out to get the dinghy on the deck. Now the dinghy is really hanging of the deck and you have to really pull it hard to get it on to the deck and the bunks and if there is wind or waves it's bad.
This is one of Jon's projects and we are going to move this new crane ( new to us, we got it off of Craigslist) and we are going to manually move it over to the other finger dock. So we moved the boat over to the other side so we have access to the crane and move it up onto the back of the boat.
The plan is that awe have our crane up here and we are going to hook it and lift it up to the top and the guys and are going to come out and replace it.
We had four guys help us move it since it is very heavy and Makaila helped out with the fenders so it wouldn't damage the crane. Once in place we then attached the harness and hoisted the crane up on to the dinghy bunks so it would be ready to be installed. And THANKS to everyone who helped we really, really appreciated it ?. Jon offered to buy beer for everyone who helped.
So now we have to unbolted the old motor and put in the new motor unbolt the crane and put in the new one. Wire it then drop the old crane with the NEW crane.
But it is going to be a tight fit since the old 12 volt motor is coming out and the new 24 volt motor is going in and it is a bit bigger it is going to be a tight fit. So if you want to make God laugh, tell him you have a plan.
So what we had to do is separate the positive buss bar that separates the winch and the davit from the 12 volt since the new one is a 24 volt and is coming off the battery bank that is comig off the thruster.
So we now have a crane to sell to someone who doesn't have a hydraulic crane!
We now have a fully operating crane that has power luffing and power winch. The last piece that we installed was a hold in the deck to put the hook in and we are going to put a type of elastic hook on it so it won't pull it out of the deck.
Last piece is to take the old crane off the deck and lower it with the new crane on to the dock ?

Anyone need a Hydraulic Winch? ✌
