Welcome back to the Elli-Yacht , it is going to be a fun series of videos of our summer trip for 2021! We are going to start our cruise to the San Juan Islands right with new friends! We're heading up for about a month with 3 other couples and one couple is from Minnesota and they have never been crabbing before and have never been to the San Juan Islands so this will be pretty fun!
The sun was coming out ? and it was time to drop some crab pots right before slack tide. We took the locals advice as to where to drop them and they suggested just off of Fawn Island. Jon showed Garrett the ropes on how to crab for the first time and we dropped our pots. We then took a short boat ride in the Boston Whaler to Jones Island which is a Washington State park that is only accessible by boat. We hiked the island and saw some deer and made it to the other side of the island and walked the beach. It was fun to see through new eyes as our friends wandered the beach. We checked our crab pots and caught one keeper crab and moved on to our next destination which was Friday Harbor on San Juan Island. We were able to get reciprocal on the San Juan Islands Yacht club dock but it was a challenge. It is first come first serve and you have to be able to raft three deep. We had to raft to another boat and then as soon as we hung our fenders there was another boat ready to raft up to us. We went to Kings Market to get provisions before leaving since we planned being on the hook for a few days. I'm glad I brought our portable dock cart. It came in handy since it is a hike to the market and back down to the marina. We set our crab pots and had a dance party on the dock then checked our crab pot ? Garrett caught 2 crabs winner winner chicken dinner!
So at the end of the day we learned about using other yacht clubs reciprocal moorage. some people are very flexible and some people are very inflexible. We have a 50 amp cord and they only have a 30 amp receptacle. So we had to do a dance so we could use both 30 amp to power up. When that wasn't an option we had to run the genset which some were not happy about.
Stayed tuned at the end for the kill ?
