MS Nieuw Amsterdam is a special class cruise ship sailing for Holland America cruise ship. She is the 81st ship to enter the Dutch-American fleet and the fourth ship in the company's history to be named Nieuw Amsterdam. Nieuw Amsterdam was launched on October 30, 2009. Nieuw Amsterdam has dynamic positioning capabilities, driven by six diesel generators and driven by Azipod propulsion technology.
The ship was tailored by Princess Maxima of the Netherlands in Venice, Italy on July 4, 2010, and began its maiden voyage from Venice on July 5, 2010.
On October 10, 2017, Nieuw Amsterdam landed in Santa Cruz Huatulco, Mexico. The strong wind blew her away from the stop, breaking the lines. However, due to damage to the hull, an extra night was required for inspection, and the next day was allowed to sail safely.
On May 15, 2020, Nieuw Amsterdam rescued a sailing ship in distress in the waters near Cape Town, South Africa. The ship lost its mast and needed refueling. The Cape Town Maritime Rescue Coordination Center contacted Nieuw Amsterdam to provide assistance to the sailing ship in distress.
